The varietal selection has led to the creation of new improved cultivars that combine the typical hardiness of Bermuda grass with fine foliage, aggressiveness and the ability to colonize spaces even during the initial establishment phase, intense color, maximum quality and very strong resistance to foot traffic. As mentioned, these are specific, carefully selected varieties. For example, Royal Bengal (PSG-9BAN) is a selected variety of Cynodon dactylon derived from parental crosses of natural ecotypes collected in the USA, Bangladesh and the Indian peninsula. Royal Bengal and the BERMUDAGRASS blend show extremely high adaptability to many different and varied climates, from tropical and\/or arid ones to transition zones (such as the Italian peninsula). It is an ideal mixture for coastal areas and warm-climate areas, but also very versatile and extremely interesting for low-maintenance areas (e.g., campgrounds) that prioritize summer use of lawns. It does not tolerate shade, especially active shade (trees). It exhibits high tolerance to temperature extremes, maintaining a bright color and vigorous vegetative activity during the summer and going dormant during cold periods (typical straw-like coloration and growth arrest). The selected varieties are very resistant to major diseases, in particular Spring Dead Spot. Its resistance to drought and, consequently, to salinity is maximum, allowing for a significant reduction in water consumption, particularly during the warmer periods; however, it benefits from the presence of an irrigation system. It produces strong and robust stolons and rhizomes early on, which appear already during the initial establishment phase (100-day rule). BERMUDAGRASS is particularly suitable for Football Fields, Golf Courses, and heavily used and\/or low-maintenance residential\/recreational gardens.
